CBI Accuses IFS Officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi of "Arm-Twisting" in Affidavit to Delhi High Court

CBI Alleges 'Arm-Twisting' by IFS Officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has accused Uttarakhand cadre IFS officer Sanjiv Chaturvedi of "arm-twisting" in an affidavit submitted to the Delhi High Court. This comes in response to contempt notices issued to the CBI on March 28, following a petition filed by Chaturvedi alleging non-compliance with a January 30 court order.

The order directed the CBI to provide information related to various corruption cases at AIIMS Delhi, investigated by Chaturvedi during his tenure as Chief Vigilance Officer. In its affidavit, the CBI claims that Chaturvedi is attempting to "arm-twist" the agency and prevent it from pursuing legal remedies.

This is not the first time Chaturvedi has faced such accusations. In September 2022, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) also alleged "arm-twisting" in an affidavit before the Supreme Court, in response to Chaturvedi's request for information regarding corruption complaints against Union Ministers and black money brought from abroad.

The CBI maintains that the contempt petition is not maintainable and that they are pursuing legal remedies. The Delhi High Court is yet to rule on the matter.
