Sharjah Economic Development Department Issues and Renews Over 17,000 Licenses in Q1 2024

In the first quarter of 2024, the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) processed a total of 17,722 licenses, with 2,129 being new licenses and 15,593 renewals. These licenses were issued and renewed through different channels such as the SEDD smart application, website, service centers, headquarters, and branches. This marked a 1% growth in comparison to the same period in 2023. SEDD Chairman, Hamad Ali Abdalla Al Mahmoud, underlined the significance of these indicators in assessing the economic status of the emirate and reiterated SEDD's dedication to achieving comprehensive development that supports economic growth.

Fahad Ahmed Al Khamiri, the Director of the Registration and Licensing Department, highlighted that commercial licenses were the most common, followed by professional and industrial licenses. The trend of license renewals indicated a strong belief in the economic environment of Sharjah among businesses. Notably, there was considerable demand in sectors like fast food, used car trading, ready-made clothes, perfumes, and construction materials, showcasing the economy's diversity and competitiveness. This data sheds light on the various industries thriving within Sharjah's economic landscape.

SEDD Branches completed the issuance and renewal of 11,186 licenses during Q1 2024, with the Industrial Branch leading in issued licenses. The Deputy Director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department, Salim Ahmed Al Suwaidi, emphasized SEDD's commitment to efficiently handling transactions and consumer complaints. The department also conducted inspections to ensure the legitimacy and safety of commercial practices, with consumer protection complaints being prevalent. Al Suwaidi urged consumers to utilize the available channels to report any violations or concerns promptly, emphasizing the importance of consumer awareness and engagement with SEDD on any issues related to commercial practices.
