Congress President Questions Voting Data, Demands Election Commission Accountability

Discrepancies in Voting Data and Non-Publication of Registered Voters' Lists Raise Concerns Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections 2024

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has written to leaders of parties in the INDIA alliance, expressing concerns over discrepancies in voting data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the non-publication of registered voters' lists.

Kharge highlighted the delayed release of final voting percentages for the first and second phases of the Lok Sabha elections, questioning the quality of data provided. He noted that in his 52 years of electoral experience, he had never witnessed such a high increment in voting percentages in the final published data.

The letter posed several questions to the Election Commission, seeking clarification on the reasons behind the delayed release and the significant discrepancies observed. Kharge also questioned whether there was an issue with the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).

Furthermore, Kharge expressed concern over the absence of data, such as votes polled in each parliamentary constituency and assembly constituency. He emphasized the need for the Commission to release this data to alleviate public doubts.

Reports suggesting the non-publication of registered voters' lists for upcoming phases further raised concerns about transparency in the electoral process. Kharge called for accountability and urged party leaders to unite and raise their voices against these discrepancies.

Kharge concluded by emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic values and the Constitution of India. He urged leaders to work together to ensure the independence and accountability of the Election Commission.
