Ramesh Attacks Modi on Corruption, Accuses BJP of Stifling Jammu and Kashmir Democracy

Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh Takes Aim at BJP Government Over Corruption Claims

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh has launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led central government following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent statement about sending the corrupt to jail. In a sharp retort, Ramesh suggested that Modi's own cabinet might find itself facing jail time after the Lok Sabha elections.

Ramesh questioned whether those involved in what he termed "legalised corruption" would also face arrest. He expressed his views on social media, using the hashtag #ElectoralBondScam.

Highlighting the "#PayPM Scam," Ramesh alleged a series of corrupt practices, including pre-paid and post-paid bribes, and post-raid extortion through ED raids, all attributed to the Modi administration.

Responding to Modi's assertion about stringent anti-corruption measures, Ramesh suggested that this declaration had motivated opposition forces to act against him.

Earlier, at a rally in Rajasthan, Modi had declared his stance on those who are corrupt and those who protect them. "Those who are saving the corrupt, listen carefully, no matter how many threats you give to Modi, the corrupt will have to go to jail. This is Modi's guarantee," he said.

Modi also criticized the previous Congress-led state government, citing instances of corruption such as recruitment exam paper leaks. He accused the party of exploiting opportunities for graft, even in matters concerning youth employment.

Additionally, Modi slammed Congress leaders for alleged misdeeds, including the appropriation of temple lands and acts of violence during religious processions. He also criticized a Congress leader's remarks made abroad questioning India's status as a nation and demanding proof of surgical strikes conducted by the Indian military.

Meanwhile, Jairam Ramesh commented on Modi's trip to Jammu and Kashmir, where he is heading to Udhampur to address the people amid tightened security. "In their attempt to retain power in the erstwhile state, the BJP government has now suspended almost all tiers of democracy, and refuses to hold fresh elections. PM Modi must answer for his suspension of democracy," Ramesh said, stating his stance on the northern state.
