Japan Urged to Develop Long-Term Strategies for AI and Robotics Growth

The Japan Business Federation, Keidanren, has urged the Japanese government to focus on becoming a leader in the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics by developing new long-term strategies. In their proposal presented on April 16, Keidanren highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach that covers the entirety of the industry to achieve Japan's goal of industrial competitiveness and growth.

According to Keidanren, short- to medium-term tactics are not sufficient to address the challenges facing Japan's industrial sector. They emphasized the necessity for a solid long-term strategy that extends to 2040, aiming to revitalize Japan's economic growth and overcome previous stagnation. The federation emphasized the importance of having a strong industry as the engine to drive Japan forward and regain its position as a global economic player.

Keidanren underscored the significance of the government's partnership with private enterprises to support promising businesses and leverage Japan's strengths in international markets. They called for joint public-private efforts to make aggressive investments and create favorable business conditions. The proposal specified seven strategic fields, including AI, robotics, semiconductors, and energy, as areas where Japan can excel, emphasizing the need for private companies to lead the way in achieving growth and innovation.
