Rajasthan's travel industry is advocating for infrastructure and connectivity improvements to facilitate the government's goal of boosting wedding tourism in the state. Gaurav Khandelwal, a travel agency owner, highlights the current lack of fully developed infrastructure in areas beyond the major cities, making it challenging to popularize destination weddings in regions like Shekhawati, Kota-Bundi, and Pali-Sirohi. He stresses that the burden during the wedding season disproportionately falls on a few major cities due to the inadequate facilities in other areas.
According to Kaushik, the absence of significant accommodations and air connectivity in regions like Shekhawati poses obstacles to promoting destination weddings, despite their potential as unique venues with painted frescoes and heritage havelis. Emphasizing the importance of government incentives, he suggests that offering sops would help attract the necessary investments in infrastructure development. Ranvijay Singh, from the Hotel Federation of Rajasthan, believes that enhancing infrastructure in the state would not only boost tourism and create new destinations but also increase the popularity of destination weddings, resulting in a double benefit.
Bhavani Shankar Mali, representing the All Wedding Industries Federation in Rajasthan, notes the significant number of weddings held annually in the state and predicts a potential 5-10% increase in destination weddings if the government focuses on improving infrastructure facilities. The industry's optimism about the government's upcoming tourism policies, particularly concerning tourism infrastructure enhancements, was expressed at the Great Indian Travel Bazaar held in Jaipur, where Rajasthan was highlighted as a promising location for destination weddings through the Wed in India Expo.
