High Voter Turnout in Baramulla Lok Sabha Constituency in Jammu and Kashmir

According to officials, more than 7.60% of the 1.73 million eligible voters in the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency in Jammu and Kashmir participated in the election within the first two hours of polling. The constituency covers 18 assembly segments across Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara, and Budgam districts, and election proceedings were reported to be progressing smoothly.

During the recent delimitation exercise in Jammu and Kashmir in 2022, three assembly segments from Budgam and Kupwara were incorporated into the pre-existing Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency. Notable candidates contesting in this election include National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah, People's Conference president Sajad Gani Lone, and the incarcerated head of Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid. The voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in this constituency had reached nearly 35%.
