Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi Visits Pakistan Amidst Strained Relations

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Pakistan is aimed at improving strained relations between the two nations. The agenda for the three-day visit includes discussions on religious, cultural, diplomatic, investment, and security matters. This visit comes following previous hostilities between Iran and Pakistan, where both nations launched attacks on each other's alleged terrorist hideouts.

During the visit, Iran and Pakistan have agreed to work together in the battle against terrorism and signed several documents to promote cooperation in various sectors. The presidents of both nations have also engaged in talks to enhance commerce and communication links between their countries. However, during the high-level bilateral discussions, while Pakistan's Prime Minister raised the Kashmir issue, Raisi shifted the focus to the Israel-Gaza conflict, reaffirming Iran's support for Palestine and those fighting oppression.

The relationship between Iran and Pakistan has been marred by mutual accusations of supporting armed militant groups. Notably, earlier in January, Iran conducted airstrikes in Balochistan province, to which Pakistan responded by attacking Siestan-Balochistan province in Iran using killer drones and rockets. Despite these escalations, both nations have since shown restraint in escalating tensions following the attacks.
