Storm Aftermath in Sofia
Following last night's storm in Sofia, the "Emergency Assistance and Prevention" Directorate of the Capital Municipality deployed over 18 teams to address the situation. Krasimir Dimitrov, the head of the directorate, reported to BNR that the situation in the capital is gradually returning to normal.
The heavy downpour with hail caused flooding in community centers, kindergartens, and ground floors. Additionally, sewer shafts were blocked, and trees and branches were brought down. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Increased Lightning Activity in Bulgaria
Experts have observed a significant increase in lightning activity in Bulgaria in recent years, with a near tenfold rise.
Yellow Code for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms
The National Meteorology Institute has issued a yellow code for heavy rain and thunderstorms in 13 areas today. This includes Sofia region, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Smolyan, Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Kyustendil, Stara Zagora, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, and Lovech. Residents in these areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
