India Gears Up for Advanced Battery Testing

India is preparing to test advanced chemical cells (ACCs) as part of its ambitious production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. The Ministry of Heavy Industries is urging automotive testing agencies to get accreditation for testing ACCs produced under the scheme.

Three beneficiaries, Ola Electric Mobility, Rajesh Exports, and Reliance New Energy Ltd, are nearing their two-year deadline to commission manufacturing facilities. These facilities will require specialized testing to ensure the safety, reliability, and performance of ACC batteries.

A workshop held in April identified challenges and solutions related to ACC testing, including the lengthy testing process. The government aims to incentivize investors to establish large-scale ACC manufacturing facilities, supporting both the EV industry and the power sector.

In addition to the initial three players, seven more companies have submitted bids for the 10 GWh tranche of the PLI scheme, demonstrating strong interest in this growing sector.
