Government Initiative Streamlines Emigration Process through CSCs

New Initiative to Streamline Emigration Process for Indian Workers

The Indian government has taken a significant step to improve the emigration process for Indian workers seeking employment abroad. Three government bodies, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and CSC eGovernance Services India Limited, have joined forces to provide eMigrate services through Common Services Centres (CSCs) across the country.

This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by migrant workers during the emigration process, particularly the vulnerability to exploitation by unscrupulous individuals. By leveraging the extensive network of CSCs, the government intends to provide safe and legal migration pathways for Indian workers seeking overseas employment opportunities.

The eMigrate project, launched in 2015, facilitates the emigration of Emigration Check is Required (ECR) category workers to notified countries for employment purposes. This online platform streamlines the recruitment process, minimizes malpractices, and offers a contactless and paperless experience for Foreign Employers (FEs) and Recruiting Agents (RAs).

The eMigrate portal also provides a comprehensive online database of emigrants, accessible to Missions, RAs, FEs, and insurance agencies. This transparency and accessibility expedite the emigration process and enable the verification of credentials for all stakeholders.

With the increasing number of Indians seeking employment abroad and the substantial contribution of their remittances to the Indian economy, this initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian migrant workers. By providing access to eMigrate services through CSCs, the government aims to empower workers with the necessary information and resources to navigate the emigration process safely and securely.
