RPF seizes drugs worth 2.80 lakh in Agartala, 22 lakhs in Lumding

The Railway Police Force (RPF) team in Agartala successfully tackled a case on July 30, where they apprehended two individuals and confiscated 28 kilograms of Ganja valued at around 2.80 lakhs. Following protocol, the apprehended suspects and the seized contraband were transferred to the Government Railway Police in Agartala for further legal procedures.

Similarly, another noteworthy incident involved the RPF team in Lumding intercepting three individuals on train no. 12424 UP (Rajdhani Express) and seizing 110 grams of Brown Sugar estimated at about 22 lakhs on July 2, 2024. This successful operation led to the apprehension of suspects and the confiscation of illegal substances, which were then passed on to the Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police in Mariani for necessary legal actions.

According to an official statement by the Indian railways, the RPF under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been actively combating drug trafficking and smuggling activities, resulting in the seizure of contraband and smuggled goods exceeding a value of 19.70 crores in the period from January to July 2024. In comparison, during the same timeframe in 2023, the RPF of NFR had managed to recover contraband and seized goods worth more than 25.43 crore, apprehending 392 individuals involved in smuggling activities. To maintain the integrity of the railway system and curb the activities of drug traffickers, the RPF teams are consistently conducting rigorous checks and drives on suspected trains and passenger areas.
