Japan Display Unveils Innovative "2 Vision Display" for Cars

Japan Display Inc. (JDI), a leading LCD manufacturer, has developed a groundbreaking car dashboard display called the "2 Vision Display." This innovative technology allows for the simultaneous display of different images depending on the viewer's angle.

From the driver's perspective, the display shows essential information like the car navigation system. Meanwhile, the passenger sees a completely different image, such as a TV program. This unique feature eliminates distractions for the driver while providing entertainment for the passenger.

The "2 Vision Display" boasts a touch function with user identification capabilities. This prevents unauthorized operation, ensuring that the driver remains focused on the road. For instance, the passenger cannot control the driver's side screen, enhancing safety and preventing potential distractions.

JDI recognizes the evolving landscape of car usage with the rise of automated driving. As people spend more time in their vehicles, the demand for in-vehicle displays is increasing. The company aims to capitalize on this trend, targeting sales of 100 billion yen ($682.2 million) by 2030 for products utilizing this new technology.

JDI is actively engaging with European and Chinese automakers, aiming to integrate the "2 Vision Display" into vehicles rolling off automated assembly lines by 2025 and beyond. Scott Callon, JDI chairman and CEO, expressed confidence in the technology's potential, describing the sales goal as a conservative estimate.

The "2 Vision Display" represents a significant advancement in car technology, offering a solution for both driver safety and passenger entertainment. As automated driving becomes more prevalent, this innovative display is poised to revolutionize the in-car experience.
