President Rumen Radev has appointed Goritsa Grancharova-Kozhareva, Vice-President of the Bulgarian National Audit Office, as the next caretaker Prime Minister. The constitution does not specify a deadline for the caretaker Prime Minister to present the cabinet lineup, but the President has requested this to be done by August 19 in order to schedule the elections for October 20.
This appointment comes after Dimitar Glavchev withdrew his declared readiness to take on the role of caretaker Prime Minister for a second time in an effort to reduce political tensions.
Reactions to Grancharova-Kozhareva's appointment have been mixed. GERB leader Boyko Borissov stated that he does not personally know her and that GERB has not been offered any ministerial seats in the new caretaker cabinet. Movement for Rights and Freedoms Chairman Delyan Peevski wished the new Premier strength to withstand the immense pressure that he believes will be placed upon her.
We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria Co-chairman Kiril Petkov has stated that the appointment of Grancharova-Kozhareva presents a clear test, specifically regarding who will be appointed as the interior minister. Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov believes that Grancharova-Kozhareva is unsuitable for the position of Prime Minister and will not be able to make independent decisions.
