A Witness Calls Out Zomato's Negligence Towards Injured Rider
Anjali, a witness to a harrowing accident involving a Zomato delivery rider, has come forward with serious allegations against the online food delivery platform. She claims Zomato demonstrated blatant negligence during the crisis, leaving the injured rider without proper support.
The incident occurred in Delhi, where Anjali witnessed the rider being hit by two cars. The rider's arm was critically injured, and Anjali attempted to reach Zomato's emergency helpline using the rider's phone. However, her calls went unanswered on three separate occasions.
"Any emergency helpline for Zomato riders is a joke. There is no mechanism," Anjali posted on social media, recounting the traumatic event.
Adding to the rider's distress, he continued receiving messages from customers and calls from Zomato's service center inquiring about the delay in his deliveries. Anjali felt this response underscored the lack of support for their riders.
"I explained to them the situation, but it just confirms the joke that riders are for Zomato," she stated.
Anjali further criticized Zomato's claims of training its riders in CPR, asserting that the company fails to provide adequate assistance when accidents occur. "Instead of just boasting about training, they should ensure proper healthcare and compensation for their riders. They aren’t just software; they are the reason for Zomato’s substantial profits," she added.
Anjali called for the company to acknowledge riders as workers and to grant them the rights that come with such status. "Recognize them as workers, give them workers’ rights, and stop with the ‘partner’ nonsense already!" she implored.
Zomato responded a few hours later on social media, expressing concern over the situation. However, Anjali claims the company's response was inadequate and that the rider did not receive the necessary support.
This incident highlights the urgent need for Zomato to address the concerns raised by Anjali and other witnesses. The company must take concrete steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its riders, including providing proper emergency assistance, healthcare, and compensation in case of accidents.
