A Ferrari Found Thanks to AirPods
Apple's Find My feature has once again proven its worth in helping users locate their lost or stolen belongings. This time, a pair of AirPods played a crucial role in recovering a stolen Ferrari worth Rs 5 crore in Connecticut.
The incident began when a Ferrari 812 GTS, valued at around $575,000, was stolen from Greenwich, Connecticut. The Waterbury Police Department's Auto Theft Task Force, alerted to the theft, used the Find My app to track the location of the AirPods that were inadvertently left in the car.
The stolen vehicle was located near a gas station in Waterbury, Connecticut. When police attempted to stop the car, the suspect fled, leaving his iPhone behind in the Ferrari. Using the iPhone, police were able to identify the driver as 22-year-old Dion Schontten, a known repeat offender. He was apprehended on September 26 while driving another stolen vehicle, an Acura.
The ability of the AirPods to broadcast their location to nearby iPhones proved instrumental in pinpointing the stolen car's location. This incident highlights the effectiveness of Apple's Find My feature in assisting law enforcement in recovering stolen property.
