Bulgarian Election Recalculation Nears Completion, Potential Impact on Parliament Seats

Recalculation of Bulgarian Election Results Nearing Completion

The Central Election Commission (CEC) is expected to hand over the recalculated election results to the Constitutional Court on March 10th. This follows a ruling by the court on February 26th, which ordered the CEC to re-enter the numbers from 2,204 tally sheets.

CEC Deputy Chair Mateva stated that the recalculation should be completed by the end of the following week. However, she emphasized that the CEC is not authorized to make the results public. This responsibility lies with the Constitutional Court.

CEC Chair Kamelia Neykova acknowledged that any changes in the number of valid votes could potentially affect the distribution of seats in parliament. However, she stressed that the counting of ballots is being conducted by experts at the Constitutional Court, not by the CEC or any other entity.

Neykova also confirmed that ballots were missing from two polling stations, while at seven others, either the machine vote or paper ballots were absent. The Constitutional Court has assigned an expert evaluation for these polling stations, specifically in the villages of Garmen, Belitsa, and Ognyanovo.
