Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Addresses GST Concerns in Chennai
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed concerns about rising GST rates during a recent event in Chennai. She firmly denied any increase in rates, calling such claims "false propaganda."
Sitharaman acknowledged the desire for lower GST on essential items and assured the public that the government is working towards that goal. However, she strongly condemned the practice of comparing pre- and post-GST tax rates on social media, labeling it as misleading information.
The minister emphasized that GST decisions are not made unilaterally. Representatives from various political parties, including Congress, DMK, Communist Party, Telugu Desam, and YSRCP, are involved in the decision-making process. She challenged critics who blame the current government for specific tax increases, reminding them that their own party members were part of the decision-making process.
Sitharaman concluded by reiterating that no GST rate has been increased and urged people not to spread misinformation. She emphasized the collective responsibility of all parties involved in the GST decision-making process.
