Asian stock markets rebound, Nikkei surges 678 points

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia-owned stock markets in Asia rebounded Friday with major gains in Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, mainland China, and South Korea.

The Nikkei 225 advanced by 678.93 points or 2.64 percent to 26,427 in Tokyo. The Australian All Ordinaries rallied 141.10 points or 1.97 percent to close Friday at 7,307. The Shanghai Composite increased 29.29 points or 0.96 percent to 3,084 in China. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong was still trading at the time of writing, ahead of 450 points or more than two percent.

In New Zealand, the S&P NZX 50 went against the trend, falling 9.18 points or 0.08 percent to 11,168. The U.S. dollar was well bid during the Asian trading zone. The euro was at 1.0397 around the Sydney close Friday. The Japanese yen was little changed at 128.72. The Swiss franc was a tad more stable at 1.0025.

The New Zealand dollar was not strong at 0.6247.

Dow Jones Industrials fell 103.81 points or 0.33 percent over the night on Wall Street, to 31,730. The 500 of Standard and Poor fell 5.10 points, or 0.13 percent, to 3,930. The Nasdaq Composite gained 6.73 points or 0.06 percent to 11,370.
