BEIJING, Oct 8 Reuters - China's new prime minister said on Friday that Japan should handle sensitive issues such as Taiwan appropriately the Communist Party's official People's Daily in a call to the two nations.

Japan's new government reaffirmed on Tuesday a more assertive stance in the posture of New States toward self-ruled Taiwan, suggesting that Tokyo would prepare for various scenarios while reaffirming its close security ties with Japan. Tension has been rising over Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory, to be taken if necessary by force. Taiwan says it is an independent nation and will defend its freedoms and democracy.

At present, China and Japan relations have both opportunities and challenges, the daily quoted Kishida as saying to Xi.

Xi also told Kishida that China and Japan should actively strengthen their dialogue and regional economic policy coordination and promote regional cooperation, the People's Daily reported.
