East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension of MTR officially opened

PHOTO HKSAR GOVERNMENT HONG KONG The East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension of the MTR was officially opened on Sunday, allowing commuters from the northeast New Territories to reach the financial districts in Central and Admiralty in a single ride.

The extension connects the Hung Hom station in Kowloon to the Admiralty station on the Hong Kong Island via the new Exhibition Centre, reducing the rail journey between the two stations from 19 minutes to seven minutes.

The East Rail Line has a total length of around 46 km and is Hong Kong's fourth cross-harbor railway line.

The extension has strategic significance, according to the opening ceremony held on Saturday by Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor.

The opening ceremony of the East Rail Line Cross-Harbour Extension, Hong Kong, took place on May 14, 2022, chief executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor. The East Rail Line will connect the central business districts on the Hong Kong Island with the northern metropolitan area on the New Territories, further promoting cooperation between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, she said.
