Google, Apple asked to comply with new South Korean law by mid-October

Google and Apple have been asked to turn in regulatory compliance plans for the new South Korean law by mid-October, which is meant to make major app store operators not require software developers to use their payment systems, said a regulator official on Wednesday.

Apple and Google are not responding immediately to comments.

The Korea Communications Commission will soon be drawing up an enforcement ordinance that will accompany the amendment of the country's telecommunications industry law. Most of the new law went into effect in mid September.

The enforcement ordinance is expected to be drafted within six months or possible earlier, the official said.
