I'm determined to take a body and soul to pass this national crisis with the people, carve out a new era and pass on a country that is rich at heart, Kishida said in his first policy speech to parliament.

Kishida replaced Yoshihide Suga in the world's third largest economy on Monday, replacing Suga who had seen his support tank amid a spike in COVID cases - 19. Recent high volume of daily cases have collapsed, ending a long state of emergency this month.
