Japanese artist's hometown goes on display for Slam Dunk

ISA, Kagoshima-popular basketball manga and anime Slam Dunk posters are on display at a special exhibition in Takehiko Inoue's home city.

The Slam Dunk series debuted in the Shukan Shonen Jump Weekly Manga magazine, published in 1990 by Shueisha Inc. An anime version, The First Slam Dunk, written and directed by Inoue himself, is scheduled to launch in Japanese theaters in December, and the Isa Municipal Government planned the exhibition to make the artist's hometown a center for the popularity of the new movie. Six B 1 - sized promotional posters for the film depicting protagonist Hanamichi Sakuragi and his teammates at Shohoku High School are on display at the Okuchi Fureai Center in the city.

Inoue graduated from Okuchi Elementary School, Okuchi Junior High School and Okuchi High School. He donated funds to the city in 1994 for the creation of the Takehiko Inoue Library on the second floor of the Okuchi Fureai Center, where his other manga hits, including Vagabond and Real, are on display along with his autographs.

Yuhei Ishii, a 32-year-old restaurant worker from Isa who currently lives in the city of Kagoshima, took photos of the posters and said, I have all volumes of 'Slam Dunk. When I was a student, it triggered me to start playing basketball. The venue is closed on Mondays.
