Japanese police investigating explosion at empty restaurant in Tokyo

An explosion occurred at an apparently empty restaurant in Toshima Ward in Tokyo on the night of November 6, injuring three passersby.

The three male victims, aged in their 30 s and 40 s, were taken to hospital after the explosion, which occurred around 10: 55 p.m. They were evidently conscious, and their injuries were not life-threatening.

According to the Ikebukuro Police Station of the Metropolitan Police Department and other sources, an officer saw the explosion in a nearby police box and rushed to the scene. The restaurant was not open at the time and there was apparently no one inside. The police suspect that gas canisters for portable gas stoves exploded. Some 8 square meters of interior wall was burned as a result of the explosion.

The restaurant is located in the west area in downtown near JR Ikebukuro Station's exit.
