Pfizer has requested FDA to approve Covid vaccine for adults of 5 to 11 due to lack of FDA resources.
If approved, the shot could become available within weeks and increase the number of Americans immunised against Covid.
The pharmaceutical company concluded in trials that children should receive a third of the dose given to adults.
The announcement on Thursday follows pressure from parents for vaccinations to open up for school age children, most of whom have returned to classrooms for the first time in a year.
