MOSCOW - Russia threatened to block Alphabet Inc. s YouTube after German state television reported RT's german channels were deleted a day earlier and said it was weighing possible retaliation against the Russian media.
YouTube reported on Tuesday that RT's channels had breached its COVID misinformation policy, a move Russian Foreign Ministry describes in a statement late on Wednesday as unprecedented information aggression.
The Ministry said German authorities were approached with a proposal to develop and take retaliatory measures against the YouTube hosting service and the Russian media. Roskomnadzor, the state communications regulator, said on Wednesday that it had written to Google and warned that the restrictions be lifted and wrote that Russia could seek to partially or fully restrict access to YouTube if it failed to comply.
Google does not immediately answer a request for comment.
