Sensex falls 5 paise to 82.29 against dollar

After opening on a positive note, the gains fell 5 paise to 82.29 against high volatility in early trade on Friday.

The domestic unit opened at 82.26 against the dollar, and then touched 82.12, registering a gain of 12 paise over its previous close. In initial trade, the 82.29 against the American On Thursday, it had settled at 82.24 against the dollar.

The US headline September CPI came in higher than expected at 8.2 per cent year-on-year 0.4 per cent MoM against a basket of six currencies, but fell 0.08 per cent after the CPI print, but saw a huge reversal on short covering in majors, according to IFA Global Research Academy.

Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.13 per cent to USD 94.45 per barrel.

In the domestic equity market, the 30 share of the BSE Sensex jumped 972.8 points or 1.70 per cent to 58,208. The NSE Nifty was up 273.80 points or 1.61 per cent to 17,288, according to the broader NSE Nifty. Foreign Institutional Investors FIIs were net sellers in the capital markets as they offloaded shares worth Rs 1,636. According to exchange data, there were 43 crore on Thursday.
