Stocks uniformly lower across Asia

SYDNEY, NSW, Australia- Stocks were uniformly lower across Asia on Monday.

Due to a public holiday in tribute to the elderly, the Japanese stock market was closed.

In Australia, the All Ordinaries declined 17.70 points or 0.25 percent to 6,957. 80.

New Zealand's S&P NZX 50 lost 48.47 points or 0.42 percent to 11,531. 99.

In South Korea, the Kospi Composite fell 27.63 points or 1.16 percent to 2,355. 15.

The Hang Seng in Hong Kong was down 250 points at the time of writing. China's Shanghai Composite was off 23 points in the final half-hour of trading.

The U.S. dollar picked up ground during the Asian trading zone Monday. The euro fell to 0.9980 at the Sydney close. The British pound fell to 1.1399. The Japanese yen was slightly lower at 143.31. The Swiss franc fell to 0.9677.

The Canadian dollar fell to 1.3297. The Australian dollar fell to 0.6692. The New Zealand dollar fell to 0.5958.
