Tokyo reports 480 new COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths

On Wednesday, Tokyo reported 1,935 new coronaviruses infections, down by 480 from a week ago, and marking a week-on- week drop for the 26th straight day.

In the Japanese capital, two new deaths linked to COVID 19 were reported, while the number of patients considered seriously ill under Tokyo Metropolitan Government criteria increased by one from Tuesday to three.

The seven-day average of new infections fell 23.9% from a week earlier to 1,835. The metropolitan government said it had 6, according to the metropolitan government.

Osaka Prefecture saw 1,644 new cases and three deaths, Okinawa Prefecture confirmed 1,557 new cases, Hokkaido recorded 1,221 new cases and one death, and Aichi Prefecture logged 1,169 new cases and two deaths.

The health ministry said Wednesday that the number of severely ill patients in the country rose by three from the previous day to 79.

On Tuesday, 17,039 new COVID 19 cases were confirmed across the country, down by nearly 5,000 from a week ago, while new COVID 19 deaths totaled 26.
