Tropical Strom Mulan makes landfall in Hong Kong

The HKO issued a thunderstorm warning at 5: 04 pm, which will remain in force until 7: 15 pm.

Mulan made landfall in the coastal areas of Xuwen County in Zhanjiang city, Guangdong, on Wednesday at 10: 50 am as a tropical storm, according to the Guangdong Meteorological Service.

According to the HKO, Mulan will move in the vicinity of Beibu Wan on Wednesday and Thursday.

It will enter the inland areas of Vietnam and weaken gradually, but its outer rainbands will still bring squally showers and thunderstorms to the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong, the forecast said on its website.

A broad trough of low pressure will bring showers to the northern part of the South China Sea in the latter part of the week, it added.

A tropical cyclone over the western North Pacific will move towards the vicinity of Honshu of Japan in the next couple of days, the HKO said.

The HKO issued Signal No 1 at 3: 40 am Tuesday and upgraded it to Signal No 3 at 11: 25 am the same day, with Strom Mulan edging closer to the city on Tuesday. The signal means winds with mean speeds of 41 to 62 kilometers per hour are expected to be produced.

The meteorological department of Guangdong predicted heavy winds and rain in the province between Wednesday and Thursday morning.

Strom Mulan made landfall in coastal areas of Xuwen County in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong at 10: 50 am on Aug 10, 2022. Customs clearance has been suspended at several high-speed rail lines and flights in Guangdong and the schedules of several high-speed rail lines have been temporarily adjusted.

All flights at Zhanjiang Wuchuan Airport were canceled at 8 am.
