Trump's ex-White House counsel to testify before Jan. 6 committee

WASHINGTON - Pat Cipollone, Donald Trump's former White House counsel, will testify before a House committee on Friday about the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, according to people familiar with the agreement.

The committee issued a subpoena to Cipollone late last month and set a date for him to appear for a deposition on July 6. Cipollone and his attorney didn't reply to questions Wednesday about his response to the subpoena or whether he planned to claim that certain interactions with Trump are protected by privilege as White House counsel.

In a letter accompanying the subpoena on June 29, the committee noted that Cipollone had sat for an informal interview on April 13. In the weeks since then, the committee said it had obtained information about which Cipollone was uniquely positioned to testify, but Cipollone refused to cooperate further, necessitating the subpoena.
