Two killed, 60 injured in fireworks warehouse explosion in Armenia

Two people were killed and 60 injured when a shopping mall in the Armenian capital of Yerevan ripped through a fireworks warehouse on Sunday, according to Russian news agencies.

Video footage showed thick grey smoke rising above a building, followed by an explosion that sent people running from the scene.

People were trying to clear rubble and debris from a building that had suffered extensive damage as clouds of dust and smoke hung in the air. The number of people injured had reached 60, of whom 22 had already been discharged, according to Armenia's health ministry. The ministry said two people died on Telegram.

The head of the ministry's rescue service said that firefighters were struggling to contain the blaze as fireworks continued to detonate, complicating the search and rescue operation.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fireworks to detonate.
