Food tax exemption in Poland may be extended

A VAT exemption on some food items is going to be extended until the end of the year, according to the finance minister.

Magdalena Rzeczkowska told the private radio station, Radio ZET, that the cabinet should make the decision in April.

Rzeczkowska said that there was no certainty, but it is probable, but there is a possibility of an extension.

The exemption is in effect until the end of June.

The exemption was introduced last year to help Poles deal with soaring inflation, and applies to certain basic food items such as bread and milk.

We'll see how inflation behaves, how in general the situation of Poles looks, and then we'll make the decision - PAP Rzeczkowska said.

Rzeczkowska's deputy, Artur Sobon, spoke about her words on Wednesday with the online news outlet wp.pl.
