The app will enable players to experience the magic role-playing game in the real world, hunting monsters appearing on their smartphone screens while walking around the neighborhood.

The title is based on Capcom's popular Monster Hunter video game series, which has sold more than 90 million units since its release in 2004.

Like Pokemon Go and Pikmin Bloom, which were co-developed by Niantic and Nintendo Co, Monster Hunter Now utilizes augmented reality technology and location information.

Niantic, a U.S.-based software developer, said it spent four years working on the project with Capcom.

It will be the ultimate experience for anyone who has dreamt of facing off epic monsters and battling them with friends, John Hanke, Niantic's CEO, said in a statement.
