Tycoon Vasil Bozhkov Released on Bail, Announces Political Bid

Vasil Bozhkov's House Arrest Replaced with Cash Bail

The Sofia City Court has replaced tycoon Vasil Bozhkov's house arrest with a cash bail of 130,000 leva (approximately 66,468 euros). Bozhkov was previously charged with several offenses, including unpaid taxes of half a billion leva (250 million euros) from gambling activities.

The court's decision was based on several factors. Firstly, Bozhkov has already been under house arrest, the second most severe detention order, for eight months. Secondly, the case is already before the court, limiting Bozhkov's ability to influence the investigation. Finally, the court assessed that there is no risk of Bozhkov absconding or engaging in further criminal activity.

Bozhkov himself has denied any connection between this decision and the upcoming elections. He has also announced his intention to head the "Centre" list for the European Parliament. In February, Bozhkov unveiled his new political initiative "Centre," which advocates for the principles of the rule of law, democracy, and cultural identity.
