Controversial Televangelist David Kariuki Ngari Charged with Sh1 Billion Fraud

Televangelist David Kariuki Ngari, also known as Gakuyo, has been charged with conspiring to defraud the public of over Sh1 billion. The founder of Ekeza Sacco, Ngari has denied 12 counts of conspiracy to defraud and obtain money through pretences and has been released on bail. The state prosecutor did not oppose his release on bail but indicated that further charges may be brought as investigations continue. The court granted a request to detain Ngari for four days to complete investigations, despite opposition from his legal team. The detective leading the case has highlighted that over Sh1 billion was stolen from over 50,000 victims, and that Ngari was a flight risk as he was arrested at the airport trying to leave the country. The court has also permitted the prosecution to summon Ekeza Sacco officials to answer to charges on behalf of the cooperative.
