Ghosh's Controversial Remarks Ignite Political Firestorm in West Bengal

Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh issued an apology for his controversial remarks about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The apology came after the BJP requested an explanation from Ghosh, who had mocked Banerjee's family background in a video clip.

Ghosh acknowledged that his party and others had expressed concerns about his choice of words. He stated, "If it is so, I am sorry for that." The TMC filed a complaint with the Election Commission, alleging that Ghosh's comments violated the model code of conduct.

Ghosh denied any personal animosity towards Banerjee. He explained that his comments were solely in response to her political statements. However, he also pointed out that a TMC leader had used derogatory language against Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari and his father.

Ghosh had previously mocked the TMC's slogan, "Bangla Nijer Meye ke chai (Bengal wants its own daughter)." He questioned Banerjee's claim to be the daughter of various states, stating that she should first clarify her identity.

BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya emphasized that the party does not endorse such remarks about women, especially against a chief minister. He confirmed that the BJP had sought an explanation from Ghosh due to the inappropriate nature of his comments.
