Fear of Job Loss Meets Investment in Training and Ethical Concerns

Fears and Opportunities for CEOs

A new study by AND Digital reveals a complex picture of CEO attitudes towards artificial intelligence (AI). While nearly half fear AI could replace their jobs, three-quarters are actively investing in AI training for themselves and their staff.

Are you accelerating enterprise value or slowing it down?", surveyed 600 global CEOs and found a significant disconnect between fear and action.

44% of CEOs expressed concern that their staff is unprepared for AI adoption, highlighting a potential skills gap. This fear is further amplified by the secret use of AI tools like ChatGPT by 45% of CEOs, who admit to utilizing these tools without proper disclosure.

Despite the widespread adoption of AI, ethical considerations remain a top priority for 68% of CEOs. This suggests a growing awareness of the potential risks associated with AI and the need for responsible implementation.

Stephen Paterson, Chief for Technology and People at AND Digital, emphasizes the importance of embracing an "AND" mindset when it comes to AI. This means adopting a balanced approach that prioritizes both speed and security, small-scale and large-scale projects, and legacy systems alongside innovation.

The report's findings come amidst a new partnership between the UK and US to ensure the safety of AI. This collaboration aims to develop advanced testing methods for AI models and share information on AI capabilities and risks.

The study highlights the complex and evolving relationship between CEOs and AI. While fears of job displacement and ethical concerns remain, there is a clear recognition of the potential benefits of AI. By embracing an "AND" mindset and prioritizing ethical considerations, CEOs can navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by AI to drive innovation and value creation.
