The Election Commission in Assam, led by Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel, is leaving no stone unturned to ensure transparency and fairness in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. With the first phase set to be held on April 19, Goel emphasized the use of GPS tracking devices on all vehicles transporting Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to enforce accountability and security. Additionally, in remote and hard-to-reach areas, satellite phones will be provided to establish communication channels essential for a smooth election process.
Acknowledging the importance of enabling maximum voter participation, Goel highlighted the declaration of a "dry day" 48 hours prior to the polls and the provision of a paid holiday for both government and private sector employees. These efforts aim to encourage citizens to exercise their voting rights and contribute to the democratic process by choosing their representatives responsibly. To further ensure the integrity of the electoral process, observers have been deployed across all constituencies, including Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Kaziranga, and Sonitpur, slated for the first phase of elections.
With approximately 86.47 lakh eligible voters spread across 10,001 polling stations in the state, the Election Commission has worked diligently to facilitate a smooth voting experience for all citizens. Special arrangements have been made for elderly voters aged 80 and above, centenarian voters, as well as voters with disabilities, including visually impaired individuals. Through the distribution of voter information guides and location slips, coupled with the implementation of 11,000 cameras for webcasting in over 5,500 polling stations, the Assam Election department aims to enhance transparency and accountability throughout the electoral process.
