Sharjah University to Establish Specialized Center for Climate Change Risk Management

## Sharjah University to Develop Specialized Center for Climate Change Risk Management

Following a recent weather depression that brought heavy rainfall to the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah (UoS), has recommended the development of a specialized center to manage the risks of rapid climate change.

The center will focus on specialized studies in geographic and geological sectors, with the aim of redesigning valley routes and installing warning sensors for their flow. This will aid in early evacuation efforts and help mitigate the impact of future extreme weather events.

This decision aligns with the university's overall aim of improving its research role in serving the community. The center will focus on specialized research and studies in the current phase of the university's research strategy, addressing and solving various challenges faced by the country in the disciplines of climate change, weather, and global warming. By proactively addressing these issues, the center will help to avoid the long-term consequences of climate change.
