Chandrasekhar Urges Centre to Ensure Timely Payment of Salaries and Pensions

Rajeev Chandrasekhar Writes to Finance Minister

Union Minister and BJP candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, has written a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the delayed payment of salaries and pensions to Kerala government employees.

Chandrasekhar urged the Centre to impose a condition on future financial assistance to Kerala, ensuring timely payment of salaries and pensions to state employees. He highlighted the plight of over 3.5 lakh government employees who remained unpaid in March 2024 and the months-long delay in pension payments.

He expressed deep concern for KSRTC pensioners, who have not received their dues for months, and emphasized the detrimental impact of such delays on their welfare. He also pointed to the financial struggles of KSRTC staff, who are not being paid their salaries.

Chandrasekhar stressed the dire financial situation in Kerala and the urgent need to prioritize the utilization of central funds for salaries, pensions, and other benefits owed to government employees. He cited observations from the Reserve Bank and the Supreme Court, highlighting the urgency of addressing Kerala's economic policies.

In his letter to Sitharaman, Chandrasekhar stated that Keralites are suffering due to the LDF government's financial mismanagement. He expressed concern that this situation might continue in the coming months, as the state has not found a sustainable solution despite substantial financial support from the Centre.
