BJP Leader Ashok Chavan Emphasizes PM Modi's Stance on Constitution Changes

BJP member Ashok Chavan, a former Maharashtra chief minister, highlighted Prime Minister Modi's declaration that there will be no alterations to the Constitution, underscoring the importance of the party's top leader's perspective on the matter. Chavan expressed that individual opinions do not hold as much weight as the stance articulated by PM Modi regarding the statute book, pointing out the denial of re-nomination for a party member from Karnataka who had discussed changing the Constitution.

Chavan, who switched from the Congress to BJP, made these remarks while speaking to reporters in Nanded ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. He referenced BJP's Member of Parliament Anantkumar Hegde's controversial remarks on amending the Constitution, stressing that the party's position, as conveyed by PM Modi, is pivotal. Chavan reiterated that those within the party who advocated for constitutional changes did not receive tickets to contest elections, citing the instance in Karnataka.

Moreover, Chavan has been actively engaging with supporters of the Maratha quota, explaining that despite legal challenges, a law granting reservation to the community in jobs and education has been implemented by the Maharashtra government. He reiterated to Maratha quota backers during village meetings that the legislation is in effect and has not been halted by the court, addressing concerns within the community regarding reservation laws.
