Jet Airways Founder Naresh Goyal Granted Interim Bail on Medical Grounds

The Bombay High Court granted interim bail for two months on medical grounds to Jet Airways founder Naresh Goyal in connection with a money laundering case linked to Canara Bank.

Justice NJ Jamadar granted bail on the condition that Goyal pay a surety of Rs one lakh and not leave Mumbai without prior permission from the special court. He must also surrender his passport.

Goyal, who was arrested in September 2023, sought interim bail on medical and humanitarian grounds as both he and his wife, Anita Goyal, are suffering from cancer.

In February, a special court had refused Goyal bail but allowed him to be admitted to a private hospital of his choice for medical treatment. The bail plea was formally rejected in March, prompting Goyal to move the High Court seeking bail on merits and interim bail on medical grounds.

Goyal's lawyers argued that his physical and mental health were deteriorating, while the ED's lawyers opposed bail but agreed to an extension of his hospitalization.

The court ultimately granted interim bail for two months, with the condition that Goyal abide by all imposed conditions.

Goyal's wife, Anita Goyal, was arrested in November 2023 and granted bail by the special court the same day considering her age and medical condition.
