Late on Tuesday night, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake rattled Southern California, its epicenter near Bakersfield, in Kern County. The quake hit at 9:09 p.m. PTD, centering on Lamont, close to Bakersfield, and triggered a series of aftershocks that followed the initial tremor.
Although the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office mentioned no damage within LA County, the Los Angeles Fire Department activated its earthquake response protocols. The impact of the earthquake was not confined to one area, as tremors were felt across Los Angeles and extended into Orange County. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded more than a dozen aftershocks, with magnitudes including a 4.5 and a 4.1, both concentrated in the same vicinity as the main quake.
The Grapevine region, situated between Santa Clarita and Kern County, continued to experience aftershocks, according to reports from ABC News. The seismic activity in the area has raised concerns and put residents on alert, with the region still feeling the effects of the earthquake that hit Southern California.
