Revolutionizing Horticulture for a Sustainable Future

A Revolution for Horticulture

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Clean Plant Programme (CPP), a groundbreaking initiative aimed at revolutionizing India's horticulture sector. This program, with a substantial investment of Rs. 1,765.67 crore, promises to set new standards for excellence and sustainability in fruit production.

Access to virus-free, high-quality planting material: This will lead to increased crop yields and improved income opportunities for farmers.

This will enable nurseries to efficiently propagate clean planting material, fostering growth and sustainability.

The program ensures consumers benefit from fruits free from viruses, enhancing taste, appearance, and nutritional value.

By producing higher-quality, disease-free fruits, India will expand its market opportunities and increase its share in the international fruit trade.

The program prioritizes affordable access to clean plant material for all farmers, regardless of their landholding size or socioeconomic status.

The program will actively engage women farmers in its planning and implementation, ensuring their access to resources, training, and decision-making opportunities.

This will address the diverse agro-climatic conditions across India.

The Clean Plant Programme aligns with Mission LiFE and the One Health initiatives, promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices while reducing dependence on imported planting materials. This program is a crucial step toward establishing India as a leading global exporter of fruits and driving transformative change across the sector. The program will be implemented by the National Horticulture Board in association with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
