Social Security beneficiaries, especially those enrolled in the Supplemental Security Income program for disabled adults and low-income seniors, might be in for a surprise in November as some could receive an additional payment due to an atypical payment schedule. The way the calendar aligns in the last two months of the year has led to a scenario where SSI recipients could receive up to three payments in November, with one on November 1 and another on November 29 reflecting their December payment.
Meanwhile, traditional Social Security recipients will continue to receive their regular monthly payments on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of the month as per their birth date. Recipients born between the 1st to 10th will get their Social Security check on November 13, those born between the 11th to 20th will receive it on November 20, and individuals born between the 21st to 31st of the month will get their payment on November 27. This contrasts with SSI recipients who will receive two payments in November, potentially causing confusion for those not expecting the extra checks.
In addition to the extra payments in November, Social Security beneficiaries are also set to receive a 2.5% cost-of-living adjustment with their 2025 payments. This increase will raise the average monthly check by approximately $50 to $1,976, with the new payments scheduled to commence in January based on the recipient's birthdate. Recipients born between the 1st and 10th of their birth month will receive the COLA increase on January 8, those born between the 11th to 20th will get it on January 15, and recipients born between the 21st and 31st of the month will see the impact on January 22.
