Atul Wassan: A good sign for South Africa cricket

New Delhi India January 14 ANI Former India cricketer Atul Wassan expressed disappointment after South Africa defeated the Men in Blue to win the three-match series 2 -- 1 at Newlands in Cape Town on Friday.

India had won the first test by 113 runs, but South Africa won in the second and third tests to clinch the series.

This team is not what we have seen before. I am disappointed not shocked as these things happen in cricket but I was not expecting this kind of a fight back. It is a good sign for South African cricket because they were falling off the map. England, Australia and India dominating. A good South African team will work well for Indian cricket. Atul Wassan said that the series had not won and lost the series, which is disheartening but lessons to learnt.

I think Rahul Dravid has been where we were in the series after leading 1 -- 0. They have done that before but this is the weakest side, but in hindsight you can see how their batsmen played especially Petersen and Bavuma and Van der Dussen. They have played very well. He said that it shows that they have got the potential and beating a side like India will help them do better overseas.

Wassan said that Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara are not doing enough for the team and may not get more chances in the future.

I think the ship has sailed for Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara because they are not doing enough. An odd 40 and an odd 50 won't work for them, it is not expected. Our batsmen have lost the series this time. Wassan said they had not given bowlers enough runs to defend 20 wickets.

We saw the wickets getting easier as the game progressed and we saw these guys score runs. It was identical to what happened in the last two Test matches. He said that the Indian team has invested a lot on them and we wanted them to feel counted and did not make it count.
