China's inflation policy stable despite rising prices

On February 16, 2022, a customer buys fresh vegetables at a supermarket in Nanjing, Jiangsu province. The country has favorable conditions to keep prices stable with sufficient market supply of goods and services, according to a spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, Fu Linghui, despite the recent rise in China's consumer price index.

The country's CPI rose by 1.4 percent year-on-year, the country's main gauge of inflation during the first four months of the year, Fu said.

Fu said that the Chinese market supply is generally sufficient and the CPI increase is comparatively lower, despite the fact that major economies such as the United States have reported significant CPI expansions in April.

It is a hard-won achievement to keep the price within a moderate range as imported inflation pressures are relatively high, Fu said.

He said that the consumption of services is also recovering, as well as the adequate supply of grain, coal and industrial consumer goods in the country.
