Cyber Monday sales hit record 1.8 billion for the first time

When the country was in the grips of a Pandemic, online shoppers shopped less on Cyber Monday this year than last.

According to Adobe Analytics via CNBC, online sales fell to $10.7 billion or 1.4 percent from last year's record $10.8 billion on Monday, marking the first-ever decline.

The decrease was due to ongoing concerns over supply chain logjams, which led to popular items being out-of- stock, weaker discounts compared to the ones a year ago and an all-time high for inflation. Retail experts believe that the decrease on Cyber Monday and the decreases on Black Friday this year could be a sign that consumers are more likely to spend more over the holiday season over the past several days, rather than just a few.

While sales were down, the final price point on consumers' shopping carts on Cyber Monday increased 13.9% year over year.

After last year's pandemic-related slumps, Adobe and the National Retail Federation expect record-breaking activity throughout the holiday season.

On 22 of those days, consumers purchased more than $3 billion worth of goods, another record, according to Adobe.

Adobe expects that digital sales from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31 will hit $207 billion, which is a new record gain of 10% for e-commerce.
